Omaha Hi-Lo: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.
Omaha Hi-Lo begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same notion in nearly every poker game.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complex at first, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of play with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi lo provides an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many individuals shooting for the high, and several shooting for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
