Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed betting on various card games at a young age. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker players. He theorized he might improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention more on the game.
The real improvement in his skills began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently challenge each other. He had access into several of the best players in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
