Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
